Automation 

Data-driven software tools are used to improve operational efficiency machines. They allow for a variety of solutions within the logistics industry. Automation can span from streamlining warehouse sorting operations to futuristic package labeling systems. 

With ports across the globe needing to be more efficient daily and demand rising like it never has before, automation is needed now more than ever. Advanced automation software can allow for fully automated container terminals to use programmed stacking cranes to unload cargo in ways that increase production, improve handling performance, reduce labor costs and solve headaches of production managers everywhere. 

Wearable Technology 

This soon-to-be standard in the logistics industry is on many must have lists since it provides incredible results for those wearing it. Equipment like smart glasses are able to not only improve efficiency by up to 25% but also significantly increase employee productivity and satisfaction. 

Products like Google Glass are proven to increase speed and reduce human error in a warehouse during the picking process. We fully expect all warehouse employees to be equipped with wearable technology within the next 5-10 years. 

The Internet of Things (IoT) 

Like it or not, big data and artificial intelligence are here to stay. The Internet of Things (IoT) encompasses the use of sensors, technology and networking to allow infrastructures and the devices within them to communicate with one another. These and additional ‘things’ communicate to share supply chain information without requiring human interaction. This then creates richer data and deeper intelligence for all parties involved. 

Over time, these are built to take humans out of the equation for tedious tasks. Now, this isn’t to make business leaders shy away from IoT but to encourage them to stay involved in the process as IoT develops. That is the only way Big Data can really be used to the fullest.
